A pellet grill feeds hardwood pellets from a hopper into a small firepot with an auger, and a fan and controller keep the temperature where you set it. That makes long cooks far easier than with charcoal, but it brings its own needs: a mains socket outdoors, dry storage for pellets in a damp climate and a cover for the electronics. Hopper size decides how long you can cook before topping up, and the temperature range tells you whether the grill can sear as well as smoke. In a British garden, wind and cold pull heat from thin steel, so a heavier body helps. Check the plug and voltage too, because some listings are for grills built for other markets. This guide compares six pellet grills by temperature range, hopper, cooking area, weight and controller, from the listings only.
