The Royal Gourmet CC1830W combines a 30 inch charcoal barrel grill with a small offset firebox on the side. It suits people who mostly grill but want to try smoking with a traditional layout, without stepping up to a heavyweight dedicated offset. The detail that marks out this version is its wood-painted front and side tables, which give a warmer look and extra prep space.

Our take

Breaking down the 811 sq in

Royal Gourmet splits the area into three parts: 443 sq in of porcelain-enamelled steel wire cooking grates, a 184 sq in chrome-plated warming rack and 184 sq in in the offset smoker box. So the main grilling surface is the 443 sq in figure, and the firebox doubles as an extra cooking area.

Inside the main barrel, a charcoal pan can be set at two heights and holds up to 4.4 lb of coal. Raising it gives a hot searing setup; lowering it calms the heat for slower cooking.

Using the offset box

For smoking, a fire is built in the side box and the heat and smoke drift into the main chamber. The listing says this brings authentic smoky flavour to small decks, patios and back gardens. It does not detail the dampers, though a built-in thermometer is listed among the features.

With the pan holding around 2 kg of charcoal, longer cooks will need topping up. Plan to have a bag and a chimney starter nearby.

Space, weight and storage

The grill is about 136 cm wide, 71 cm deep and 124 cm high, and weighs 22.4 kg. The wood-painted front table and side table provide workspace, three S hooks hold utensils, and the mesh bottom shelf takes up to 20 lb of accessories if they are spread evenly. Assembly is required.

How it compares

The Royal Gourmet 30 in offset has almost the same 811 sq in layout and pan, with a side door on the firebox for adding charcoal and removing ash, at 20.5 kg. The Oklahoma Joe's Laredo 1100 is much larger at 1,100 sq in and 43.1 kg, with a dedicated firebox, cleanout pan and adjustable smokestack.

Verdict

The CC1830W is a good fit if you want a grill first and an offset smoker second, on a patio of moderate size, and like the wood-effect tables. If you prefer a firebox door for refuelling, look at the Royal Gourmet 30 in offset. For serious smoking capacity and finer airflow control, the Oklahoma Joe's Laredo 1100 is the step up.
