The Weber Lumin is a plug-in grill for balconies, terraces and small gardens where gas and charcoal are impractical or not allowed. It is for people who still want searing heat and proper grill marks. Its defining claim is temperature: Weber says it gets past 315°C in around 15 minutes, which is hot enough to brown steak rather than simply warm it.

Our take

Heat, grates and the plancha

The Lumin draws 2,300 W, and its cooking grates are porcelain-enamelled cast iron, which Weber says spreads and holds heat evenly. The grates are described as dishwasher-safe, a real advantage on a balcony with no garden hose.

A plancha insert is included in the box. It turns part of the cooking area into a flat plate for burgers, eggs, pancakes and vegetables that would otherwise fall through the bars.

Cooking area and other modes

The listing gives a cooking area of 33 x 49 cm, quoted in the specs as 1,561 cm². That is enough for a meal for four. Weber also says the Lumin can smoke, steam, keep warm and defrost, but these modes use optional accessories that are sold separately, so budget for them if they matter.

A lid thermometer is listed in the highlights, so you can keep an eye on the heat without opening up and letting it escape.

Placement and cleaning

This version is a tabletop grill at roughly 60 x 50 x 33 cm and 16.6 kg, with no stand mentioned. You will need a solid outdoor table that can take the weight and heat. No assembly is required.

Fat drains into a front-facing grease tray, which is easy to reach and empty. Weber lists a five-year limited warranty and two years of EU spare part availability.

Compared with the Lumin Compact and Pulse 1000

The Weber Lumin Compact is lighter at 11.8 kg with a 43 x 32 cm grate and 2,200 W, suited to two or three people. The Weber Pulse 1000 adds digital temperature control on a 41 x 31 cm grate. The Ninja Woodfire OG701UK goes another way, using wood pellets to add real smoke flavour to electric cooking.

Verdict

The Lumin suits balcony and small-garden cooks who want high heat, a generous 33 x 49 cm grate and a plancha in the box. If storage and weight matter more than size, the Lumin Compact is the smaller sibling, and anyone who wants genuine smoke flavour without charcoal should consider the Ninja Woodfire OG701UK.
