The Weber Q 1200N is the compact Q barbecue with built-in side tables, aimed at couples and small families who grill on a patio or balcony and sometimes take it away. What makes it different from the lighter Q 1100N is a redesigned high-dome lid, which Weber says gives 46 percent more space underneath than previous models, so a small roast or whole chicken fits under the lid.

Our take
Lid, grates and burner
The 2.93 kW high-efficiency burner sits beneath porcelain-enamelled cast iron grates covering 1,290 cm², enough for nine burgers. Weber says the grill heats up quickly and holds high temperatures for steaks, poultry and vegetables.
The taller lid is the practical change. Roasting a chicken or a joint on a compact grill often means the lid touches the top of the food. Extra headroom solves that. It also leaves space for a small roasting tray or a trivet under the food, so fat does not drip straight onto the grate.
Controls and side tables
Front-facing temperature knobs and a lid thermometer make it easy to adjust the heat without leaning over the grill. Electronic ignition handles lighting. Two side tables give space for a plate, tongs and seasonings, which is often the thing missing on a portable grill.
Weight and placement
At 17 kg and about 68 x 42 x 42 cm, the Q 1200N is almost twice the weight of the Q 1100N for the same grill area. It can travel, but it is happiest on a patio table or wall. No stand is included in this version, so plan a heat-safe surface.
Assembly is required. The warranty is a five-year limited one, and Weber states five years of EU spare parts availability.
Q 1200N versus the other portables
The Weber Q 1100N shares the burner and grate at 9.1 kg, without side tables or the high lid. The Weber Q2200 steps up to a 54 x 39 cm grill with fold-out side tables at 19.7 kg. The Onlyfire 3-burner portable offers 7 kW and a 22 x 13 in stainless grate at 15 kg.
Verdict
The Q 1200N is the right choice if your compact grill mostly lives at home and you want side tables and room under the lid for roasts. If it will travel often, the Q 1100N is far lighter for the same grate, and if you need more cooking space, the Weber Q2200 is the next size up.
