Our take

Ceramic body and heat range

The body is ceramic with a 0.8 inch wall, around 20 mm, in a dome shape that London Sunshine says maximises airflow while using little fuel. The maker states a cooking range of roughly 82 to 399 °C, which covers low smoking, roasting, baking and high-heat grilling.

An adjustable air vent is listed in the specification. As with any kamado, the bottom and top vents together control how hot the charcoal burns, and the thick walls keep that temperature steady once it settles.

Grate and stand

Food sits on a thick stainless steel grate, 33.5 cm across, with a folding side section so you can drop in more charcoal mid-cook without lifting everything off. The body measures 39 cm, and the assembled grill on its stand is about 50 x 53 x 85 cm.

The stand has four legs and handles on each side. It raises the grill to a comfortable height, but the listing does not mention wheels, so moving it means lifting.

Weight and where it lives

At 42 kg in total, this is a grill you set up once and leave in place. Choose a level, stable spot on paving rather than decking that flexes, and plan for a cover, since the listing does not include one.

This listing does not mention a gasket or thermometer, while the green version of the same model and the 13 inch London Sunshine both list a glass fibre gasket. It is worth confirming with the seller what is fitted.

Against the smaller kamados

The London Sunshine 13 inch tabletop kamado is about half the weight with an 11 inch grate and a stated gasket and thermometer, better suited to two people. The Char-Griller Akorn Jr is lighter again at 16.2 kg with a steel body. The 15 inch gives the most cooking space of the group, at the cost of portability.

Verdict

Pick the London Sunshine 15 inch if you want a stand-mounted ceramic kamado with a grate big enough for three or four, and you have a permanent spot for it. For a balcony or travel, the London Sunshine 13 inch or the Char-Griller Akorn Jr are far easier to live with.
