Our verdict
Pick the Weber Traveler for caravan and camping trips where you want a family-size grill that rolls and folds. Pick a Q 1200N for light, compact cooking, or the Q 2200N if a small patio is its main home.
Both are Weber's answer to grilling away from a big cart BBQ, and both use one burner under a lid with porcelain-enamelled cast iron grates. They differ in how they travel and how much they cook. This guide compares the Q 1200N, the Q 2200N and the Traveler using figures from their listings, and explains which suits a caravan, a campsite or a small garden.
Three models compared
These three grills cover most of what buyers weigh up. The Q 1100N is the lightest Q at 9.1 kg if you mainly carry the grill by hand.

How each one travels
The Traveler's trolley is the whole point. It opens and folds in seconds, according to Weber, and you wheel it rather than lift it. Folded, it is long and slim, so it suits a car boot, a caravan front locker or a garage wall. At 21.1 kg it is not light to lift into a boot, but you rarely need to carry it far.
A Q grill is a tabletop body you carry by its handles. The Q 1100N at 9.1 kg is easy to lift, and the Q 1200N without a stand is 17 kg. Stands for the Q range are mainly for the garden; on a campsite you need a solid table that can take the heat. If you cook in the same garden spot most of the time, a Q on a stand is neater.
Cooking space and heat
The Traveler's 63 x 34 cm grate gives 2,065 cm², which is far more than the Q 1200N's 1,290 cm² and close to the bigger Q 2200N. That makes it a family grill rather than a couple's grill. Its 3.8 kW burner sits between the two Q models.
The Q 2200N lists the most power at 4.1 kW and the most burgers at up to 12, with a domed lid for a roast chicken. The Q 1200N has a high-dome lid too, with 46% more room than earlier models according to Weber. All three have lid thermometers and porcelain-enamelled cast iron grates that hold heat for searing.
Gas connection on the road
Portable Weber grills sold in the UK are usually set up for small cartridges, a bottle with an adaptor hose and regulator, or both, depending on the model and bundle. Listings do not always say which. Check the manual and what is in the box before you leave, and carry the right regulator for the bottle you can buy near your pitch.
Caravanners often run a grill from the same propane bottle type as the van, through the correct regulator and hose for the grill. Never improvise adaptors. If you are unsure, ask a gas engineer or the caravan dealer.
Note:Set up portable gas grills on a stable, non-flammable surface in the open air, never inside a tent, awning or caravan. Check connections with soapy water after fitting a cartridge or bottle, and let the grill cool before packing it away.
Which should you choose?
Choose the Traveler if you tour with a caravan or camper, cook for a family of four or more and want a grill that rolls and folds in one movement. Choose a Q 1100N or Q 1200N if you need something light to carry or a compact grill for a patio table. Choose the Q 2200N if most cooking happens at home on a small patio but you want the biggest Q.
Our best portable gas BBQs for camping guide adds the Go-Anywhere and other brands, and Weber gas BBQs compared shows where the Q and Traveler sit in the whole range.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Traveler bigger than a Weber Q? Its cooking area of 2,065 cm² is larger than the Q 1100N and Q 1200N, and close to the Q 2200N.
Can I use a Weber Q on a balcony? Weber markets the Q range for small spaces, but many leases ban gas on balconies. Check your lease first, or look at electric grills.
Do Q grills need a stand? No, they sit on a table. A stand gives a comfortable working height in the garden and keeps the grill off a table top.
How long will a gas bottle last on these grills? Divide the bottle's energy by the burner kW; our gas bottle burn time tool does the sum.
